Known for its white sands, clear waters, and quiet strength, it was once a strategic port used to monitor passing ships. For me, it became a place of anchoring and awareness.

Bluefields Counselling & Psychotherapy carries the same spirit.

Meet Jennifer M. Jackson, RP, CCC

Founder, Bluefields Counselling & Psychotherapy

I’m a seasoned Registered Psychotherapist and the founder of Bluefields Counselling & Psychotherapy. With over 25 years of experience in the financial sector as a financial coach and counsellor, I bring a unique blend of strategic insight and emotional intelligence to my work. I believe healing isn’t one-size-fits-all, it’s a deeply personal process shaped by connection, self-awareness, cultural understanding, and each person’s unique story.

Based in St. Thomas, Ontario, I offer trauma-informed therapy to individuals, couples, and first responders across Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and British Columbia. Supporting others through life’s challenges has always been close to my heart, and I find deep meaning in creating space for healing and growth. Clients often describe me as calm, thoughtful, and fully present. My goal is to make people feel truly seen, heard, and supported.

Outside the therapy room, I’m an avid traveller, lifelong learner, and passionate reader. My love for languages and culture helps me connect across differences and appreciate the many layers that shape our experiences.

Why I Do This Work

This work isn’t just a career, it’s a calling.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent decades in finance, coaching and counselling people making critical decisions about their businesses and lives. But beneath the spreadsheets and planning sessions, I kept seeing something deeper: people were struggling and not just financially.  Burnout, relationship strain, unregulated emotions and unprocessed trauma showed up again and again. Pain that no budget or balance sheet could fix.

Then, my own life shifted. After surviving two serious car accidents, I was forced to slow down and confront my own recovery physically and emotionally. It was in those moments of stillness that I understood:real change isn’t born from strategy alone, it rises from the struggle. It begins when we finally feel safe enough to be seen, supported enough to heal, and strong enough to grow.That realization led me to pursue a Master’s in Counselling Psychology and open the doors to Bluefields Psychotherapy in 2023.

My Philosophy: Healing Isn’t Linear

I believe healing is not a straight path, it’s layered, lived, and lifelong. Sometimes it feels like progress, and sometimes it feels like starting over. And that’s okay.
In my practice, I don’t just focus on tools and techniques. I focus on you. I take the time to learn who you are, what shaped you, and what’s getting in the way of the life you want to live. Together, we’ll untangle your story, reframe old narratives, rediscover your inner strength, and reconnect with the wholeness that’s always been within you. Because real healing begins at the root and uncovering that starts with your story and the thoughts you tell yourself.

My Approach

I take an integrative, trauma-informed approach to therapy drawing from a range of evidence-based modalities including:

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

A structured therapy that helps people process and heal from trauma or distressing experiences by using bilateral stimulation to reprocess memories.

ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy)

A brief, directive therapy combining visualization and eye movements to help reframe stressful or triggering memories quickly and effectively.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

Focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours that contribute to emotional struggles.

CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy)

A specific type of cognitive therapy for PTSD that helps people challenge and modify unhelpful beliefs related to trauma.

ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)

Uses mindfulness and acceptance strategies to help clients live in alignment with their values while navigating difficult thoughts and feelings.

MBCT (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy)

When you’ve been running on empty, it can feel like you have nothing left to give. Therapy helps you reset, set healthier boundaries, and reconnect with what matters most.
